A truly random post to mark two months of residency in Syria.
In the last week, Damascene traffic seems to have doubled. Not surprising, given the influx of new residents, but still rather trying if you have to get across town every day. Not only has the number of cars increased, so has their size. The Saudi invasion has brought Hummers to Syria, as well as a crush of Mercedes Benzes and Lexuses.
Nonetheless, some of the "local" character remains. It turns out that Syrians have thing for classic American cars. Who knew? Among the tiny Euro-mobiles and non-descript Peugeots are the following gems:

this is the Lebanese diaspora and all the Gulf tourists that were vacationing there and have changed their destination
